As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Maholsav, a fusion of Street play and Flash mob was conducted by the Department of History and Political Science at District Collectorate to commemorate the contributions of Captain Lakshmi to Indian Independence struggle. Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. Captain Lakshmi, a renowned freedom fighter and first woman leader of INA Jhansi regiment, belongs to Palakkad district. One of the reasons behind the selection of Palakkad district as one among the 75 districts of India to be a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Maholsav is Palakkad being the birth place of Captain Lakshmi. In association with the District Collectorate, the Department of History, Mercy College, Palakkad organized a Flash mob depicting the life, career and contributions of Captain Laksmi towards Indian freedom struggle. Deputy Collector in charge of Election Dept inaugurated the event. The event had drawn the attention of massive public. 14 students from the department participated in the Flash mob and two faculties guided them for the same.
