Bringing Information To The Citizens

Right to Information Act 2005 mandates timely response to requests for government information by the citizen. It is an initiative taken by the Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel Affairs, Public Grievances and Pensions to provide a– RTI Portal Gateway to the citizens for quick search of information on the details of first Appellate Authorities, PIOs etc. amongst others, besides access to RTI related information / disclosures published on the web by various Public Authorities under the government of India as well as the State Governments.

Objectives of RTI

The basic object of the Right to Information Act is to empower the citizens, promote transparency and accountability in the working of the Government, and make our democracy work for the people in real sense. It goes without saying that an informed citizen is better equipped to keep necessary vigil on the instruments of governance and make the government more accountable to the governed. The Act is a big step towards making the citizens informed about the activities of the Government.

About The College

Mercy College Palakkad, Kerala is a Christian Minority College administered by Jai Christo C.M.C Educational Agency , Palakkad. Started in the year 1964, Mercy College is now a Post Graduate Women’s College affiliated to the University of Calicut, Kerala. The College stands for academic excellence, development of skills and character formation . The College also aims at training women for the service of God and humanity. The College strives to become a center of learning par excellence, provide value-based education, promote quality education aimed at global competence, ensure an integrated development of individuals and empower women through education.

The College has thirteen UG courses (Botany, BCA, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Biotechnology, Computer Science, History, Mathematics, English, Commerce(CA, and Finance) and Zoology), eight PG courses (English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry MSW, Botany and Economics) and a part-time Ph. D programme in English. The College offers Value add on courses also offers Certificate courses related to various disciplines.

Like Basic Computer course, Photography, Home Science, CA, CPT Entrance Coaching and PCC apart from offering Bridge courses for new entrants. The activities of the College are administered by the Principal, Vice-Principal, 96 faculty members,15 non-teaching staff and 2049 students. The College was the first College under the University of Calicut to be accredited by NAAC with Four Star status and Re-accredited with an ‘A’ Grade in the third cycle. In keeping with the academic challenges, Mercy College has kept itself abreast of latest trends in its effort to impart quality higher education to women in a semi-urban locality like Palakkad.

Powers and Duties of Officers and Employees

The Principal of the College is the Academic and Administrative Head of the College. Administrative office is headed by the Senior Superintendent and supported by Head Accountant, Clerks, Library Assistants, Lab Assistants and Office Assistants under the supervision of Principal. Associate Professors and Assistant professors of various departments under the supervision of senior teacher as the Head in charge of the department support the Principal in academic matters. Public can directly access the information from the College Office/ Principal and the departments concerned during working hours of the college. Information on other matters can be obtained from the Public Information Officer as per provisions of the RTI ACT, 2005.
