Mercy College Solar Power Project

As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability and clean energy, Mercy College installed an 80 kW on-grid solar power plant in September 2022 under the initiative of the Department of Physics. Fully funded by the College Management, the project reflects the institution's vision of promoting renewable energy and reducing dependence on conventional power sources.

Electricity Supply

Since commissioning, the solar power plant has operated continuously, supplying reliable and eco-friendly electricity to the campus. The system generates an average of 111 MWh of electricity annually and meets the power requirements of the college, hostel, chapel, and convent. Currently, the solar plant supplies approximately 90–95% of the institution's electricity demand.

On-Grid Solar System

The solar power plant operates on an on-grid model. During the daytime, the electricity generated is first used on the college campus. Any surplus electricity is exported to the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) grid. At night or during periods of low solar generation, electricity is drawn from the KSEB supply, ensuring an uninterrupted power supply.
