SAAC

SAAC (State Assessment and Accreditation Centre) in higher education refers to the first state-level quality assurance body in India, established in Kerala under the Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) to assess and accredit institutions using state-specific criteria alongside national standards, focusing on quality, equity, and inclusivity to prepare for NAAC accreditation and promote overall institutional excellence in the state.

Key Functions of SAAC:

  • State-Specific Accreditation: Develops assessment frameworks that incorporate Kerala's unique socio-economic and educational priorities, like social inclusion, gender equity, and secularism.
  • Quality Enhancement: Supports institutions in building Internal Quality Assurance Cells (IQACs) and fosters continuous improvement in teaching, research, and governance.
  • Preparation for NAAC: Guides higher education institutions (HEIs) to align with national standards set by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council).
  • Grading & Ranking: Assesses and assigns grades to universities, colleges and ranks them using state-specific metrics.
