The Department of Zoology is one of the oldest departments of Mercy College which had started academic instructions at the UG level in 1967. The department offers B.Sc. Zoology Main Course, as well as Zoology as a complementary subject for B.Sc. Botany programme. A graduate degree in Zoology opens a vast range of career opportunities in the field such as Teaching and Research, Forensics, Indian Forest Services, Indian Administrative Services, including working as zoo curators, museum curators, animal and wildlife educators, wildlife rehabilitators and conservationists, Research Project assistants and in higher specialized studies. The department also offers a UGC aided career orientation course in Bioinformatics approved by University of Calicut.
The department strives to create an academic environment in which intellectual, professionally creative and socially acceptable values are upheld. We aim at developing students with the help of approaches involving technology identification, training and project work through feasible studies. The B.Sc., Zoology course lays foundation for all life sciences. The curriculum provides an opportunity to learn fascinating diversity of Animal life, an insight into the Physiology, Cytology, Genetics, Developmental Biology, Ecology and Evolution, basics in Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Immunology, Research Methodology, Laboratory Equipments and Techniques, etc.
