Mercy College FCC

The SPC at mercy College is dedicated facility designed to provide legal recourse and protection for individual who are victims of domestic violence.SPC started functioning in the year 2008, according to the "Domestic Violence Act 2005," and is aided by the Kerala State Social Welfare Board, Thiruvananthapuram. An experienced advocate works as a Legal Counsellor. SPC has a subcommittee that meets quarterly to evaluate its functioning. The District Protection Officer, District Probation Officer, Police Officials, Lawyers, and ward councillors are included in the subcommittee. Outreach programs are also conducted for women at the grassroots level to make them aware of the Domestic Violence Act and its implications. This typically aims the objectives related to domestic violence and supporting victims.

Objectives
  • To provide immediate and ongoing support to victims of domestic violence to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • To offer intervention services, emergency hotlines and shelters to address urgent situations and provide immediate assistance to those in need.
  • To provide legal guidance and assistance in filing protection orders or restrain orders as per the provisions of the DV act.
  • To provide support groups and therapy sessions to create a supportive community for survivors.
  • To provide vocational training, job placement assistance and educational opportunities for the survivors to rebuild their lives.

Services offered:

They offer legal advice, help in filling complaints, and assist victims in understanding the legal processes involved in obtaining protection orders or pursuing legal actions against perpetrators.
  • Awareness and Prevention: It works to raise awareness about domestic violence within the community and promote preventive measures. This involves education campaigns and outreach programs to inform individuals about the signs of domestic violence and support services.
  • Crisis Intervention: It aims to provide immediate assistance during crisis situations. It involves helplines, emergency response teams and support services to address urgent needs and ensure the safety of victims.
  • Empowerment of victims: Empowering victims to regain control of their lives is a key objective. It provides empowerment programs, skill-building workshops, and assistance in accessing resources that enable victims to become self-sufficient.
