Department of Physical Education

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Established in 1964, Mercy College Palakkad stands as a pioneering institution committed to value-based education and the advancement of women. Affiliated with the University of Calicut and accredited with an ‘A’ Grade by NAAC, the college has nurtured generations of students through a culture that harmonises academic depth with holistic development.

Within this legacy, the Department of Physical Education holds a place of special significance. The department recognises physical activity as fundamental to intellectual growth, emotional balance, and social responsibility. Sport is therefore not treated as an addition to campus life, but as an integral dimension of education.

The department sustains an environment where participation, discipline, and lifelong wellness are cultivated through systematic training and structured engagement. Supported by extensive facilities including dedicated playfields, a modern fitness centre, and spaces for yoga and conditioning, students are encouraged to develop resilience, leadership, and a deep respect for teamwork.
