NIRF 2025

National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF Rankings)

NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) is an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It was launched in 2015 to rank colleges, universities, and professional institutions across the country. NIRF gives students and parents a reliable way to compare institutions based on quality.

Ranking Parameters (Major Criteria)

NIRF ranks institutions using five main parameters:

  • Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR) – Quality of faculty, student–teacher ratio, learning resources, and infrastructure.
  • Research & Professional Practice (RP) – Research papers, publications, patents, projects, and overall research output.
  • Graduation Outcomes (GO) – Student performance in exams, placements, higher studies, and graduation rates.
  • Outreach & Inclusivity (OI) – Diversity of students and staff, gender balance, and support for differently-abled students.
  • Perception (PR) – Reputation of the institution among employers, academics, and the public.
Significance of NIRF Rankings
  • Helps students choose the right college based on transparent evaluation.
  • Encourages institutions to improve quality in teaching, infrastructure, and research.
  • Promotes competition among institutions, raising overall educational standards.
  • Acts as a policy tool for the government to identify strong and weak areas in higher education.
  • Builds trust by providing data-based, credible rankings.
