Mercy College Palakkad Instituted an Anti–Ragging Committee on 07-12-2005.

The objectives of the cell are:
  • To provide a platform for the students to address their complaints, Issues and concerns.
  • To maintain an educational atmosphere with harmony in the College.

Modus Operandii

As per the ‘Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act’ 1998 (Act 10 of 1998), of the Kerala State Higher Education Dept.

  • Awareness about Anti-Ragging Committee is given during orientation classes for the fresher`s when they join the college.
  • Every year 5th Dec is observed as Anti-Ragging Day and awareness programmers are conducted in the campus and outside campus for creating awareness among the students, teachers, parents and general public about preventing this menace in the College Campus.
  • Anti-ragging banners and postures are displayed in the campus.
  • Students can approach the teachers of the cell / Principal/ Mentor concerned with confidence at any time if they have any complaints from the seniors.
  • Students can also drop their complaints/suggestions in the suggestion boxes provided in the campus.


The college level punishment in cases of ragging being reported includes includes one or more of the following:

  • Suspension from attending classes.
  • Withholding academic privileges and other benefits.
  • Debarring from appearing any periodical test/ university examinations.
  • Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.
  • In case of serious issues, expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for specific periods.


The UGC has issued very strong and detailed regulations for curbing the menace of ragging in Higher Educational Institutions. As per regulations any of the following acts come under the purview of ragging.

  • Any conduct by any student or students whether by words (spoken or written) or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.
  • Indulging in rowdy or indisciplined activities by any student or students which cause or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension there of in any fresher or any other student.
  • Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the psyche of such fresher or any other student.
  • Any act by a senior student that prevents, disturb the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher.
  • Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it; sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing for obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing boily harm or any other danger to health or person.
