The Department of Economics and Sociology, Mercy College, Palakkad, in collaboration with Sahajeevanam Palliative Care, conducted a home care program during the academic year 2023-24. Students from the depatment participated in the program, which took place every Thursday. Home care sessions were held in Vanakkara, Kalpathi, Puthoor, and various locations in Palakkad town. A significant number of individuals affected by conditions such as diabetes, bedridden stroke, Alzheimer's, lymphatic filariasis, mental retardation, cancer, and other ailments were attended to. Through this initiative, students could interact with patients, understand their health challenges, and develop a helping mentality. The home care program plays a crucial role in personality development and serves as an ideal platform for students to grow into better human beings in the future. It was an enlightening experience to recognize that individuals seek more than just physical support as well. Both students and the Sahajeevanam Palliative Care team provided strong support for medical care. Students had the opportunity to understand the profound impact of various illnesses on individuals.
