The department of Economics and Sociology, Mercy College Palakkad, in association with District Social Justice Office, Palakkad, conducted an awareness rally in connection with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day observance which was observed on 15th June 2023. The rally was flagged off by Mrs. Binumol, District Panchayat President and inaugurated by Dr. Chitra S IAS, District Collector Palakkad. She acquainted the students with the relevance and objectives of participating in such activities. The rally started from Jayamatha College Jn. at 9:00 a.m. and ended at the KSRTC Bus Stand, Palakkad .The rally was intended to mobilise community action and engage people in discussions on how to promote dignity and respect for older adults. Students walked with placards, which showed protest for abuse against elder people. More than 60 students, along with their teachers, took part in the rally. The event was concluded by a street play organised by students of the Social Work Department, Mercy College Palakkad.
