The Department of Social Work,Mercy College, Palakkad in collaboration with Jai Christo Social Trust, Palakkad, observed the International Day forOlder Persons on 29th September 2025at 10:30 am in Mercy Home, Palakkad.Jai Christo Social Trust, established in 2017, has been actively engaged indevelopmental and welfare activities, with a focus on promoting social justiceand extending support to vulnerable groups. Collaborating with the trust, thedepartment aimed to highlight the value of senior citizens in our society andto acknowledge their contributions. Mercy Home, Palakkad, is a well-knownresidential care institution in Palakkad district that provides shelter, care,and support to elderly individuals who are destitute or without family support.The home has 20 inmates at present, ensures their physical, emotional, andsocial well-being through various activities and services, fostering a sense ofbelonging and dignity among the residents.
As part of the day’s program,the social work students organized a variety of engaging activities for theresidents, including interactive games, cultural performances, and entertainmentprograms. The inmates participated with great enthusiasm, andthe joyful atmosphere created a sense of togetherness and celebration. Theevent offered an opportunity for students to interact closely with theresidents, listen to their life experiences, and understand the significance ofcompassion and care in social work practice. The programme was well-coordinatedby studentcoordinators Ms. Sriya C P and Ms. Sruthi K,under the guidance of faculty coordinator Dr. Sr. Sherin Joseph. The collaboration of the departmentwith Jai Christo Social Trust enriched the event, making it both meaningful andmemorable.
