'Making a Difference: Exploring Career Options in Social Work'

TheDepartment of Social Work organized a Career Orientation Program on the theme“Making a Difference: Options in Social Work” on 12th September 2025at 10:30 am in the Seminar Hall. The objective of the program was tofamiliarize students with the wide range of career opportunities available inthe field of social work and to provide them with professional guidance forshaping their future.

Theresource person for the session was Ms. Athira K, Project Officer, MinorityWelfare Department, Government of Kerala. In her address, she emphasized theincreasing relevance of social work professionals in diverse sectors such ashealth care, education, community development, corporate social responsibility,child welfare, family counselling, and minority welfare. She highlighted thatthe profession not only offers employment opportunities but also providesindividuals with a meaningful platform to contribute to social change anddevelopment.

Ms.Athira also underlined the professional skills and competencies required foreffective social work practice, including communication skills, empathy,problem-solving ability, leadership, and ethical commitment. The session alsocovered the significance of higher studies, research, and specialization inemerging areas of social work. The program was coordinated by Ms. Sruthimol K,Faculty Coordinator, with the support of student coordinators Ms. Navya P and Ms.Malavika R.
