Observation Visit to PSSP

The Department of Social Work,Mercy College, Palakkad organized an observation visit to People’s Service SocietyPalakkad (PSSP) on 30th July 2025. The visit was part of the academiccurriculum to provide students with first-hand exposure to the functioning ofnon-governmental organizations and to understand their role in socialdevelopment.

On arrival, the students werewarmly welcomed by Rev. Fr. Ceejo Karikkatil, Executive Secretary of PSSP.He conducted an orientation session in which he explained the history and establishmentof the institution, its governing body,and the overall vision and mission guiding its activities. He highlightedthe philosophy of PSSP, which is rooted in promoting social justice, equity,and holistic community development. Father elaborated on the various services and projectsundertaken by PSSP across different sectors. These include programs in health care, education, women andchild welfare, community development, environmental sustainability, livelihoodpromotion, and skill training. He also explained how thesociety collaborates with government departments, funding agencies, and localcommunities to ensure the effective implementation of its initiatives.

Students were able to understandhow projects are planned, executed, monitored, and evaluated. Fr. Ceejoemphasized the role of social work professionals in bridging the gap betweenthe community and developmental resources. The visit was coordinated by Ms. Aswathy S, facultymember of the department, along with Ms.Amrutha K and Ms. Sunitha A, first-year MSW students.
