The Research and Post Graduate Department of Physics hosted a two-day International Conference on Emerging Trends in Sustainable Energy (ICETSE-2023) on July 24th and 25th, 2023. The conference witnessed active participation and remarkable moments: Inaugural Session: The inaugural session was graced by the presence of Principal of Mercy College, Dr. Sr. Jorry T F, and the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Lakshmi M, the Conference Convener and Head of the Department of Physics, Mercy College. The conference was formally inaugurated by Prof. Bindu K from the University of Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and Dr. Arvind Ajoy, an esteemed Associate Professor at IIT Palakkad by lighting the traditional lamp. Inaugural address of the guest followed. They appreciated the initiative taken by Department of Physics, Mercy College for such a venture in the field of sustainable energy. Former Head of the Department of Physics, Ms Mariyama John offered facilitations. Dr. Anlin Lazar extended the vote of thanks on behalf of Organising committee. Book of Abstracts: The conference saw the release of a comprehensive Book of Abstracts, which likely provided a concise summary of the keynote addresses and research paper presentations. Diverse Participation and active interaction: A commendable number of participants, exceeding 60, joined from various Universities like Mahatma Ghandhi University, Kerala University and Calicut University regions, alongside few international attendees, demonstrating the global reach and significance of ICETSE-2023. Participants interacted with the speakers and cleared their doubts. Keynote Addresses: The first day featured insights from three distinguished keynote speakers, each sharing their expertise. Dr. Aravind Ajoy spoke on the topic Advances and Challenges in Solar Cell Technology. He touched upon the technical issue of factors that curb the efficiency of silicon solar cells. He mathematically demonstrated the advantage of half cut cells. Dr. Bindu Krishnan spoke on the topic X -ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy for Analysis of Energy Materials. She highlighted the significance of purity of materials which goven the electronic properties of photovoltaic materials and how XPS can be used as an efictive tool for material charecterisation. In the third session Dr. Saji K J, Associate Professor and Director, International School of Photonics, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi spoke on the recent totic of Harvesting Mechanical Energy & Enabling Self Powered Sensing with Triboelectric Nanogenerators .On the second day, Dr. Aldrin Antony from Associate Professor, Department of Physics, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi Cochin University of Science & Technology, Kochi, handled the topic An overview of the development, current status and future prospects of crystalline silicon solar cell technologies. In the next session and Mr. Sanish P from the University of Vermont, USA, delivered the address on revolutionizing Solar Energy: A journey through modern solar cell innovations, with Mr. Sanish P participating online.
