In the year 2020-2021, our Department Conducted an Extension Activity on Geriatrics from December 2020 to March 2021.As part of this activity, our department seeks to support elderly people living in Old Age Homes. We often make visits to our nearby Old Age Home ‘Mercy Home’during the lunch interval.Visiting aging loved ones not only helps break up the routine of their daily activities, but also keeps them connected to the world around them. We plan to help with the things they require to carry out their day to day activities. Both UG and PG students of our department interacted with them, listening to their experiences and sharing theirs. The staff was welcoming and people were very happy to see us visiting them. Also, the students conducted some activities like musical game that we played, opened the invaluable treasure of songs treasured by the aging loved ones at home, encourages them to come up and enjoy. Despite the problems they might have been facing, smiles on their faces was a motivation to all of us. Our visiting leads to a variety of benefits for their emotional and physical heath. On 20/3/2021,thirty of our students visited Sahajeevanam Heath Care(A unit of Manpura Public Charitable Trust) in Chathapuram,Palakkad and spent time with the inmates which make them happy.A MOU was signed between Sahajeevanam Heath Careand our college for the period March 2021 to December 2021. Students provided support to Sahajeevanam Health Care when they organize palliative care programmes for the neighbouring community. Also, the students of our college distributed awareness brochures to the nearby community. We as a department feel that it is the moral duty of every person to take good care of the elderly people and support them as much as we can.
