Certificate Course on Geriatric Care 2021-22

In the year 2021-22, PG Department of Mathematics conducted a 30 Hours Certificate Course in Geriatric Care from 1st December 2021 to 31st March 2022, which includes the introduction to care giving for older adults, age related diseases and disorders and promotion of healthy ageing. We gave this course in two batches. First batch consists of 31 students of First year UG Mathematics and the second batch consists of 19 students of first year PG Mathematics. This programme started with an introduction class on 1st December 2021 by Sr. Deepthy CMC (Retd. Nurse), who discussed about the skills needed to succeed in a role as a care taker to an older adult. Subsequent classes and practical sessions were taken by Sr. Gana C.M.C. (RNR and hospital administrator). As a part of this training program, students visited Mercy Old Age home. They patiently communicated with all the elders present at the Old age home. They were taught to check BP using Sphygmomanometer and digital blood pressure monitor and glucose levels using a Glucometer. Several elderly patient care tips were given during the practical sessions which helped the students to effectively care the elders at their home as well. The progroamme came to an end by 31st March 2022.
