INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING 2025

The Department of Social Work, Mercy College,Palakkad, observed the InternationalDay Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26th June 2025 with a series ofawareness activities aimed at educating students and the public about thedangers of drug abuse and the importance of early prevention.

As part of the observance, the department organizeda poster-making competitionbased on the theme “A Safer TomorrowBegins with Prevention Today.” The competition was open to students fromvarious departments, and around 12students actively participated in the event. The posters reflectedstrong messages advocating against drug use, emphasizing the need forcollective responsibility, and suggesting healthy lifestyle choices for youth.A panel of faculty members evaluated the posters based on creativity, relevanceto the theme, and impact. Prizes wereawarded to the top three participants to recognize and encourage theirefforts in promoting the message of prevention.

In addition to the poster competition, the socialwork students performed a powerful streetplay on campus. The play focused on the real-life consequences of drugaddiction, peer pressure, and the importance of family and community support inthe recovery process. The performance drew significant attention from studentsand faculty, effectively spreading awareness in an engaging and relatablemanner. Ms. Sruthimol K, faculty, Ms.Thulasi A V, and Sayana K Simon, firstyear social work students coordinated the program.
