The Department of Social Work observed World SocialWork Day 2026 with meaningful activities aimed at promoting socialresponsibility, unity, and professional awareness. As part of the observance,the department organized a webinar and a community outreach initiative,reflecting the core values of social work practice.
The highlight of the celebration was a webinar onthe theme “Digital Harambee: Using Digital Spaces to Co-build Hope andHarmony in a Divided Society.” The session was led by Mr. Mohammed Elthaf KC, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, Ideal College for AdvancedStudies, Malappuram. The resource person provided insightful perspectives onhow digital platforms can be effectively utilized to foster collaboration,inclusivity, and social cohesion in today’s fragmented world. He emphasized therole of social workers in harnessing technology to create positive socialchange, bridge social divides, and amplify marginalized voices. The session washighly interactive, encouraging students to reflect on the ethical use ofdigital spaces and their responsibilities as future professionals. Participantsactively engaged in discussions, making the webinar both informative andthought-provoking.
In addition to the academic component, thedepartment also undertook a compassionate outreach activity by distributingfood to destitute individuals in Palakkad town. This initiative aimed to instila sense of empathy, social commitment, and service among the students. Theobservance of World Social Work Day 2026 was thus marked by a balanced blend ofknowledge sharing and social action. It provided students with an opportunityto connect theoretical learning with real-world practice, while alsohighlighting the significance of solidarity and collective effort in building amore just and harmonious society.
