TheDepartment of Social Work, Mercy College, Palakkad in collaboration with JaiChristo Social Trust, Palakkad observed International Women’s Day on March 7,2026, Jaya Matha College, Palakkad. Kairos group, which is a women’s group forempowering self and society participated in the program. The event aimed tocelebrate women’s achievements and promote gender equality.
Dr.Sr. Gisala George, Social Work Counsellor of Jai Christo Trust welcomed thegathering. As part of the program an annual report presented by Sr. Sheeba RoseCMC coordinator of Kairos group. Dr. Jimcy CS, assistant professor, MercyCollege, Palakkad handled a session on Schemes and Policies for Entrepreneurs’.The celebration included performances by social work students, such as a themedance and street play, highlighting women’s empowerment and rights.Additionally, cultural events and game sessions were conducted for the ladiesof the Kairos group, fostering a sense of community and solidarity.
Theevent was part of the global observance of International Women’s Day, which iscelebrated annually on March 8. This year’s theme, “Rights. Justice. Action forAll Women and Girls,” emphasizes the need for collective action towardsachieving gender equality and empowering women. The program coordinated by Ms.Sruthimol K, faculty, Ms. Nikitha K and Ms. Navya P, student coordinators. Thewomen’s group actively engaged in all activities conducted by the social workstudents. The Department of Social Work’s initiative demonstrates itscommitment to promoting social justice and women’s empowerment. The event was asuccess, with participants expressing appreciation for the efforts made torecognize and celebrate women’s contributions.
