Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (IEDC) Cell

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IEDC) of Mercy College, Palakkad, was officially instituted with the approval of the Kerala Start-up Mission (KSUM) as per the order issued on 11 June 2026. The IEDC serves as a vibrant platform to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and startup culture among students by nurturing creative thinking, problem-solving abilities, and entrepreneurial competencies.
The Cell aims to inspire students to identify real-world challenges and develop innovative, technology-driven, and socially relevant solutions. It provides opportunities for students to transform their ideas into viable products, services, and startup ventures through mentorship, training, networking, and exposure to the startup ecosystem.

Aim

To cultivate an innovation-driven and entrepreneurial ecosystem within the institution by empowering students to become creative thinkers, innovators, and successful entrepreneurs who contribute to sustainable economic and social development.



Objectives

  • To promote a culture of innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship among students.
  • To identify and nurture students with innovative ideas and entrepreneurial potential.
  • To encourage the development of technology-based and socially impactful solutions to real-world problems.
  • To organize workshops, seminars, hackathons, boot camps, ideation challenges, and entrepreneurship awareness programmes.
  • To provide mentorship, guidance, and networking opportunities with industry experts, entrepreneurs, investors, and startup mentors.
  • To facilitate access to incubation, funding opportunities, intellectual property rights (IPR) awareness, and startup support schemes offered by Kerala Start-up Mission and other agencies.
  • To encourage interdisciplinary collaboration for innovation and product development.
  • To strengthen industry–academia interaction through collaborative projects and experiential learning.
  • To develop leadership, communication, business planning, and problem-solving skills among students.
  • To motivate students to pursue entrepreneurship as a viable career option and become job creators rather than job seekers.
