Resource person: Prof. M R Anantharaman, UGC BSR Faculty Fellow, Cochin University Of Science & Technology Session 1: Time 10.30 am to 12.15 pm Topic: Introduction to Research Methodology The first session was on Introduction to Research Methodology and it was attended by 100 participants. The target audience were Research scholars and Postgraduate students from various parts of Kerala. There were few participants from outside the state also. The session covered the topics like identification of research problem, relevance of the research problem, significance of literature survey, Plagiarism check, selection of good journals for publication, Research ethics and so on. The speaker elaborated the terms h- index, impact factor, citation index, etc and its relevance. Participants used the open discussion slot for the clarification of their doubts.The session was well appreciated by the participants. Session 2: Time 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm Topic: Basic concepts of errors and approximations This session was attended by 70 participants from in and around the state. The topics of this session included the significance of error evaluation with suitable examples, concept of significant figures, error approximation methods like curve fitting and sources of experimental errors. Few students clarified their doubts regarding the present scope of research. Outcome: Many youngsters who were planning to enter the research field in science got an opportunity to interact with an experienced scientist cum academician. With more than 30 years of research experience the speaker could motivate the youngsters to follow the right path of research if they have an inquisitiveness for the unknown.
