Two day Workshop on Methodological Aspects of Genetic Engineering conducted on 25th 26th February 2022 as a part of Science day observance in the seminar Hall of Mercy College and a total of 50 students and 20 staff members participated in the two day workshop seminar organized by the PG& Research Department of Botany, Mercy College Palakkad. The first day Seminar begins with the was inauguration of the renovated seminar hall by Mother Leoni CMC, Provincial Superior and Manager, Jai Christo Province, Palakkad. The presidential address was given by Dr.Sr.Gisala George, the principal of Mercy College, Palakkad and the felicitated the programme by Dr. Jelly Louis C, the HOD of the Botany, Mercy College. In the morning session the keynote was given by Dr. Manu Kanjoormana Aryan, Assistant Professor in Immunology, Amala Cancer Research Centre, Thrissur, Kerala. The resourse person of the day gave a talk on “Targeting Cancer cells: Use of Advanced Molecular biology”. Delivered a talk on the techniques used in the treatment of cancer by the advancement of stem cell therapy and more than an informative session, it cleared many doubts regarding the conventional methods implementing in cancer treatment and a documentation on this topic was also displayed and explained by him. In the afternoon we have the technical session with hands on training in DNA Isolation, Agarose gel preparation and Gel casting by Dr. Arunaksharan Narayanankutty, Assistant Professor in Zoology, St. Joseph’s College, Devagiri, Kozhikode. The technical session extended to the next day with PCR and Gel documentation which is also interesting part of the workshop, we were able to apply our theoretical knowledge. This workshop was a grand success and we could convey the messages on the importance of stem cell therapy and its advantages in the present scenario and also the importance of the practical applications among the students and staff and all the participants got new information from the resource person who was greatly acknowledged because of their knowledge. Participation certificates were given to all the participants,the programme was concluded with the vote of thanks by Riya James.
