Observation Visit to Mercy Home

The Department of Social Work,Mercy College, Palakkad organized educational observation visit to Mercy Home,Palakkad on 1st August 2025as part of the academic curriculum to expose students to real-time social workpractices and intervention models in various institutional settings. Uponarrival, the students were welcomed by the staff and introduced to theresidents. The social work students engaged in meaningful conversations withthe inmates, listening to their life experiences, memories, and thoughts. Theseinteractions helped foster a sense of connection and understanding between thestudents and the elderly, bridging the generational gap.

To create a lively and joyful atmosphere, thestudents organized a series of recreational activities, including danceperformances, music sessions, and various indoor games. The activities weredesigned to encourage participation, promote social interaction, and uplift thespirits of the residents. The inmates enthusiastically took part in the gamesand musical activities, sharing laughter and moments of togetherness with thestudents. The visit was not only a recreational break for the residents but alsoa valuable learning experience for the students. It allowed them to observe thepsychosocial aspects of aging, the importance of companionship, and the role ofcommunity-based interventions in enhancing the quality of life for the elderly.The program coordinated by Ms.Sreya M, faculty coordinator, Ms. Sreebha S andMs. Nikitha K, student coordinators.
