The Department of Social Work, Mercy College,Palakkad, in collaboration with the District Medical Office, Palakkad, jointlyobserved World Breastfeeding Weekon 7th August 2025. The program was organized with the objective ofcreating awareness among students and the general public on the significance ofbreastfeeding for both mother and child.
As part of the observance, the Social Work studentsof Mercy College actively participated in awareness-building activities on thecollege campus. A flash mob wasperformed by the students, which attracted the attention of the campuscommunity and conveyed key messages regarding the importance of breastfeeding.Following this, the students staged a roleplay, highlighting the health benefits, emotional bonding, and long-termadvantages of breastfeeding, as well as dispelling common myths andmisconceptions associated with it. The creative presentation methods helped tospread knowledge in an engaging and impactful way. The program emphasized thatbreastfeeding is not only vital for the physical and cognitive development ofinfants but also contributes to the health and well-being of mothers.
Through these initiatives, the Department of SocialWork successfully conveyed the message that breastfeeding is a natural foundationfor lifelong health and should be encouraged and supported by society at large.The program was coordinated by Ms.Aswathy S, faculty, Ms. Aswani U & Ms. AnaghaK N, first year students.
