The Department of Social Work,Mercy College, Palakkad organized educational observation visit to Lions FSWSuraksha Project, Palakkad on 31stJuly 2025 as part of the academic curriculum to expose students toreal-time social work practices and intervention models in variousinstitutional settings. Ms. Deepa N., Project Coordinator, conducted a detailedorientation session on the overall functioning of the project. She elaboratedon the administrative structure, operational framework, and the roles andresponsibilities of various staff members. The session also provided anoverview of the beneficiaries served by the project, which include vulnerableindividuals and communities in the Walayar Valley region.
Ms. Deepa further explained the range of servicesoffered by the agency, including welfare schemes, health and social supportinitiatives, and awareness programs aimed at improving the quality of life ofthe beneficiaries. She highlighted the importance of community participation,inter-agency collaboration, and sustainable practices in achieving long-termdevelopmental goals. The interaction allowed students to link theoreticalconcepts learned in the classroom with the practical realities of projectimplementation and community outreach. It also offered valuable insights intothe challenges faced by welfare agencies and the strategies adopted to overcomethem. The visit concluded with a note of appreciation to the Lions FSW Surakshateam for their hospitality and willingness to share their knowledge andexperiences. The program was a valuable learning opportunity, reinforcing thesignificance of field-based exposure in social work education.
