World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is celebrated to raise awareness about the abuse and neglect experienced by older adults. This day aims to promote an understanding of the importance of preventing elder abuse and supporting the rights and well-being of older people. An awareness program was organized by the Department of Social Work, Mercy College Palakkad in association with the District Social Justice Department to give awareness about violence against senior citizens. The campaign was conducted at the KSRTC bus stand, Palakkad. As part of the day celebration, musical drama, vehicle procession, awareness rally and poster campaign were organized. At first, the District Panchayat President Mrs. K Binumol flag off an awareness rally. After that, the District collector Dr S Chitra IAS inaugurated the programme. Elder abuse is one of the least investigated types of violence and does not get addressed in national action plans as frequently as other key social issues. The musical drama performed at KSRTC bus stand, Olavakode Railway Station and Stadium bus stand. The campaign is the initial step to provide an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of the abuse faced by older people.
