A Day With Eco Workers Department of Economics and Sociology

Department of Economics and Sociology Mercy College Palakkad A DAY WITH ECO WORKERS Department of Economics and Sociology organized a survey with Haritha Karma Sena as part of Haritha Kerala Mission on 3-11-2022 and 4-11-2022. Mission Haritha Kerala endeavours to promote eco-friendly environment, sustainable development and efficient solid waste management. The Haritha Karma Sena procures non-biodegradable wastes from diverse units and separates waste materials according to its components. The experience acquired from the two-day survey with the Eco workers (Haritha Karma Sena) by the students was anew and enriching. On 3 rd of November 2022, the first day of the survey the team gathered at the Urban Health Center, Diara Street Palakkad. The students were told to collect information on particular aspects relating to bio waste discharge. A ward was allotted per 2 members on a team with the fellow Haritha Karma Sena worker who guided the team throughout the survey. A trial survey training was conducted prior to the original survey to aid the students equip the process. The students were asked to clarify all the related queries during the session. On the way towards the asking of questionnaire refreshments were given by the Haritha Karma Sena workers. The relationship amongst the Haritha Karma Sena workers and the students was cordial and cooperative. The Haritha Karma Sena workers shared their day-to-day experiences and grievances with us. Henceforth, throughout the survey the students were able to visualise a glimpse of the day-to-day activities undertaken by the Haritha Karma Sena to keep the environ neat and clean. Their efforts need to be appreciated and rewarded. The buildings covered by the students encompasses houses, flats and shops. Owing to paucity of time and other limitations, the students could cover only a limited building. The teams encountered diverse people who were sagacious, tolerant, hospitable, which made the survey involved and worthy. The teams wholeheartedly enjoyed the survey and look further for more avenues wherein the students can garner much experience.
